Fennel – a vegetable part of the same family of carrots and celery – is part of the traditional cuisine of some countries, but is recently being used in many others, especially because of the many ways it can be used. Indeed, it can be eaten either raw or cooked or also simply as seasoning for broader recipes. As it is a Mediterranean vegetable, fennel is happy to grow in areas with a temperate climate, which is why it doesn’t mind excessively cold or hot weather. Moreover, this is a vegetable that requires special attention during sowing and replanting to be able to grow and thrive. From this point of view, it is important to have machines specifically built for this type of cultivation in order to meet its many needs: in this kind of context, the fennel transplanters by Ferrari Growtech come into play with a key role.
Replanting fennel is a particularly delicate phase, as there are many aspects to bear in mind, the first one being the stage of growth at the time of transplant: the plant must already be 12 cm (4 ½ ”) high. At the same time, the soil where it will be planted must be properly tilled and full of organic fertiliser. However, the main care refers especially to the distance between the plants and the rows: indeed, fennel is a plant with very long roots and leaves, meaning that it needs a lot of space to thrive and ripen. Just think that its final shape can be oval or round depending on the available soil where it can grow. This is why it is essential to have fennel transplanters by Ferrari Growtech: the features based on which they are designed maintain the right distance and right depth, giving the plant the chance to develop in depth and in width. Namely, fennel needs a distance of about 20 cm (8”) between each plant and about 50 cm (20”) between each row. Optimal transplants require a soil depth of about 5 cm (2”).
Fennel transplanters by Ferrari Growtech are available in 2 versions: automatic and semi-automatic. For the former, the operator only needs to feed the panels inside the loading guides: then the machine will take care of everything, ensuring maximum efficiency. The semi-automatic version is equally innovative, as it guarantees precision combined with rapidity thanks to an intermittent carousel and a self-cleaning ploughshare. The category of automatic machines includes the FUTURA and FUTURA TWIN models, while semi-automatic ones include the FMAX, MULTIPLA and FX models.
